Community Library

The library is now year round to all ages thanks to a partnership between the Chilkat Indian Village, the Chatham School District and funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Native American Library Services Enhancement grants.

The Klukwan Community/School Library Revitalization Project began in 2005 and has resulted in a warm and cozy library offering the following services:

  • Books, audio books, magazines, newspapers and films for all ages (new materials are added regularly)
  • Access to the Internet
  • Storytimes for children
  • Computerized catalog and check-out system
  • Interlibrary loan (borrowing materials from other libraries when we don't have what you need)
  • Computer training for individuals
  • Programs for adults
  • Reference services

In 2007, CIV was awarded another IMLS Enhancement Grant to implement their "Weaving Library Services into Everyday Village Life" project. In the next two years programming will be increased, Tlingit language story sacks will be created, new materials will be added to the collection and an Advisory Library Board will be established to help guide the library's future.

Gen Stevens and Carrie Valentine are on staff to provide assistance to patrons.
